Attend Bat Night at Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary on October 17 in Orange County!

Are bats flying mice or rats?  Do bats live in graveyards?  To find out these answers and more, Cal State Fullerton’s Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary presents its sixth annual Bat Night on SaturdayOctober 17 from 4 pm – 8 pm.

At a Bat Night, a field ecologist whose research focuses on small mammals, will discuss why people should appreciate Southern California’s furry flyers and not fear them.  California is home to 25 bat species, 16 of which live in Orange County, including one of the most common, the Mexican free-tailed bat.

The Bat Interpretive Program will take place at 4:30 pm and 6 p.m. for families and 8:15 p.m. for an adult only program (ages 18+).

The family friendly program also features:

  • crafts and games
  • live animal encounters
  • pumpkin carving ($6)
  • wagon hayrides ($3)
  • face painting ($3)
  • barbecue ($3-$8)

The price to attend Bat Night is $5 adults / $3 for children / 5 and under are FREE.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Tucker’s K-12 outdoor education program.  Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary is 12-acre nonprofit nature preserve operated by the Cal State Fullerton’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.  The facility serves as a research center for University students, faculty members and others, and is open to the public to enjoy and learn about the local wildlife and natural habitat.

Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary is located at 29322 Modjeska Canyon Road,
 Silverado, 92676.

Event visitors can park for FREE on the corner of Santiago Canyon and Modjeska Canyon roads and take the shuttle bus to Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary.
