I come from a long line of musical theater lovers.  While growing up in Northern California, my aunt often arranged for our family to see several Broadway shows in San Francisco.  It was a family tradition for us to hop on a Bart train (Northern California’s main transportation system), head into the city and see a performance.

Then in junior high and high school, I participated in several musical productions from South Pacific to Annie.   My love for musical theater grew even more as I went off to college and majored in music, with an emphasis in vocal performance.

During my senior year in college, I was offered an internship in Performing Arts Management at The Segerstrom Center for the Arts (formally known as The Orange County Performing Arts Center) and that sealed the deal!  From then on I knew I wanted a career in the music industry.

So here I am now…several years later with the wonderful opportunity to take Field Trip Girl and Field Trip Boy to see a musical at The Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa.  It’s like seeing history repeat itself all over again!

My family will soon be rocking out at The Segerstrom Center for the Arts as Childsplay brings the hit cartoon series Schoolhouse Rock to life on stage.

Rock 4

The TV show, which presented academic subjects including history, grammar and math through megahit songs such as “Conjunction Junction” and “Just a Bill,” has received a bit of a makeover by Childsplay with an updated sound to the popular hits.

Schoolhouse Rock Live! premieres at the Center October 3 & 4 in Samueli Theater as part of the Center’s Family Series.

Rock 1

Critics have raved about this production: “Director Anthony Runfola should be commended for this delightful production,” said Randy Cordova of The Arizona Republic.  “It’s fast-moving, energetic and, at an hour, the perfect length.  Adults won’t check their watches and kids won’t grow restless in their seats.  Quite simply, it’s pure fun.”

Rock 5

Schoolhouse Rock Live! features Childsplay favorites Eric Boudreau as George, Rudy Ramirez as Tom, Molly Robinson as Shulie and Keilani Akagi as Dina.  The play is directed by Anthony Runfola.

School House Rock, rocks! How wonderful to see it preformed live and in the same place you did your internship. The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is such a beautiful venue.
