On Sunday, my family had a not-so-spooky day at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California!  We attended their annual Halloween family-friendly celebration called Knott’s Spooky Farm.  This daytime event is a non-scary celebration of cheer rather than fear with shows and activities geared for kids ages 3-11.

Families are invited to participate and join in the Halloween fun at 4 different areas in the park – Ghost Town, Fiesta Village, Boardwalk Ballroom and Camp Snoopy.   The special limited-time event serves up live entertainment, trick-or-treating, a costume contest and exclusive festivities honoring the 50th anniversary of the classic Peanuts animated TV special, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!

Ghost Town Treat Stops

First, my children went trick or treating down Ghost Town.  With numerous trick or treating stations along the path, my children got to see friendly ghosts delivering delicious treats!  Children are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes too.

Camp Spooky Theatre

After trick-or-treating around Ghost Town, Field Trip Girl and I spent some time in the newly remodeled Camp Snoopy.  Field Trip Girl went on some rides and took a few pictures with characters from the Peanut Gang.

Then we sat down and watched the “The Monsters are Coming, Charlie Brown” show in the Camp Spooky Theatre.  At other points during the day, children are welcome to show off their best Halloween costumes, and join members of the Peanuts Gang in a Peanuts Dance Party.  How fun!

Linus’ Great Pumpkin Patch

Knott’s Berry Farm is currently celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the classic Peanuts animated TV special, “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”!  So once “The Monsters are Coming, Charlie Brown” show was over, we met back up with Field Trip Boy and his father, and then went and played in Linus’ Great Pumpkin Patch.  My kids played various Halloween games like toss the bean bags and met a few more Peanut Gang characters like Linus and Sally.  Children can also color a Snoopy coloring sheet for free or decorate a real pumpkin for a few dollars more.

Spooky Hollow Maze

Field Trip Boy’s favorite part of Knott’s Spooky Farm was the Spooky Hollow Maze.  He loves mazes!  Therefore, when he and his sister got to travel through the spooky forest that had gigantic jack-lanterns and a Headless Horseman, he was beside himself with glee.  He went through it over and over again.

There are also many picture scenes throughout the maze where parents can stop and take classic Halloween pictures of their kids.  They make great holiday photos.

Ghastly Gallery

Finally, our last stop on Sunday, was a visit to the Ghastly Gallery in the Boardwalk Ballroom.  Here my children played in the monstrous museum and explored spooky culture.  My kids also had a hilarious time putting their faces in each individual monsterpiece.  Afterwards, we saw a late afternoon show in the Monsterpiece Theatre.

Dia de los Muertos

Also, when visiting Knott’s Spooky Farm, don’t forget to head over to Fiesta Village for some vibrant fun with a Dia de los Muertos non-scary, friendly, educational celebration of the season.  Field Trip Girl asked me several questions about the celebration and what it meant.  It was a good history and cultural lesson for both of us.

Knott’s Spooky Farm Dates and Times

Knott’s Spooky Farm runs every weekend in October, plus on Halloween, from 10 am – 4 pm.  Admission to Knott’s Spooky Farm is included with the price of a Knott’s Berry Farm ticket and Season Pass.

If you plan to eat the park, I also recommend checking out the Knott’s all-day dining plan, which allows you to order a new meal every 90-minutes for only $31.99 per person!  We took advantage of the dining plan on Sunday and it was fantastic.  I did not worry one bit about having hungry children!
