I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Neutrogena. I received samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for my participation. #ChooseSkinHealth
In only two more days my kids will be on summer break! And I can’t tell you how excited I am! As warmer weather, beach trips, BBQs and countless hours spent in the sun become the norm for our family, I plan to lather them up all summer long with Neutrogena Sun products.
As my kids soak up as much time as possible outdoors, I must remember that the sun soaking in as well, and to keep sunscreen handy for frequent re-application.
I actually keep sunscreen within my immediate reach all times! Because we are a very active family and always on the go, I just never know when I might need some. Therefore, I always keep a bottle handy in my car, purse and swim bag.
I also have a long history of skin cancer in my family. Just last year, I lost an aunt to melanoma. Watching a family member pass away from something you know is preventable with proper skin care is very hard. Did you know that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, yet only 20% use SPF daily? It is a sad statistic. Personally, I have had numerous basal cell carcinomas removed from my face and I don’t even sunbathe. That’s how fair my skin is.
My husband also has to deal with dry and cracked skin because he suffers from eczema. People with eczema and more sensitive skin need to take extra care in protecting their skin from the sun’s damaging rays.
That’s why I choose skin health for my family and emphasis the importance of using sunscreen on a daily basis with my children. Sunburns in children increase the odds of developing skin cancer later in life. So playing in the sun is fun, but getting burned is not!
Here are my top 5 important places to wear sunscreen:
1. At the pool.
It is obvious that we need to wear sunscreen at the pool, but sometimes we just need a little friendly reminder. I know I have forgotten at times.
2. At school.
Each morning before my kids go to school I make sure they put on their sunscreen. It is a part of their daily routine like brushing their teeth.
3. Out on the water.
Whether you like to go boating in the summer or whale watching in the winter, it is important to wear sunscreen year round. The water’s reflective rays can cause a sunburn.
4. At the park.
My kids love the park, but we always make sure to lather up in sunscreen beforehand. I like to bring a hat for us too.
5. On vacation.
We travel often (as you can tell from this blog!) and every time we do, I make sure to pack a few extra bottles of sunscreen in my suitcase. I just never know when we might be outside in the sun exploring a new theme park, watching a concert or simply enjoying the fresh. We need sun protection for all of these outings.
When we are out and about, I prefer to use Neutrogena Sun products on my family’s sensitive skin, because The National Eczema Association recently awarded its Seal of Acceptance to five Neutrogena Sun products.
The five products include:
