Read to Succeed at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Attention Teachers and Homeschool Educators!

It’s time to register for the Six Flags Read to Succeed program again!  If you’ve never participated in this program and live within 250 miles of a participating Six Flags theme park, you have been missing out on a great opportunity.  We participated a few years ago and it is fabulous program for little readers!

Read to Succeed is an exciting program that encourages students in grades K through 6 to read for fun.  Students who complete six (6) hours of recreational reading earn a FREE ticket to Six Flags.  The program is available to teachers and schools at no cost to participate, and it’s a great way to motivate children to read.  In addition, one “teacher” ticket is given to each “class” or “homeschool educator” who accompanies the child(ren).

For students who are just learning to read, and are unable to read on their own yet, you can count the time you spend reading aloud to them for the program.

Read to Succeed Homeschooler Info

Homeschoolers have to register as individual home schools on the Read to Succeed website.  Six Flags goes on the honor system, so you do not need any homeschool identification papers to register your child online.  All you need is the name of your school.

Read to Succeed is open to all types of homeschoolers too – online students, independent study, charter, public school and PSA students.

How To Register For Read to Succeed

The deadline to register and complete the six hours of reading is March 1st, 2016.  Tickets are emailed in late spring (around May) after you have mailed in a verified reading log for each child.  Tickets are typically good for select dates within the 2016 season and expire around August.

  1. To register go to the Six Flags Read to Succeed website and click the blue arrow button next to “Register for a new account.”
  2. Enter your email address and a password to register the account.
  3. Select “Homeschool Students” when asked what type of students you are registering.
  4. Next, fill in your name as the teacher, your homeschool’s address and phone number, and how many students you have per grade level.
  5. Next read through the important info Six Flags wants to make sure you understand and click the boxes saying you understand.
  6. Next Select “Six Flags Magic Mountain, Los Angeles, California” from the menu.
  7. Once you have your account registered, now it’s time to start reading.  Be sure to keep a handwritten log of your child’s reading provided by the theme park online, as you’ll need to turn this into Six Flags to get your free ticket.  Student Reading Logs are available in your online account under “Documents.”
  8. By or before March 1, go back online to your account and click the tab that says “Your Students” and enter each of your participating students and the number of hours logged on their reading log.
  9. Then mail in your handwritten reading logs to the Read to Succeed program by March 1 (address provided on the form).

If you have further questions, see the Six Flags Read to Succeed website.

Happy Field Tripping!
