Last week, my father and I paid a visit to Bacchus Bar & Bistro.  We were greeted by Vanessa, who was an excellent waitress!  She reviewed with us the menu and made some great pairing suggestions as to what type of beer and/or wine went with various menu items.  We also meet Deb who graciously hosted us and as with Vanessa, made us feel welcome.  The restaurant is in a great location with outdoor and indoor seating within a shopping plaza with ample parking and right off the 405 fwy.

Upon our arrival, I ordered the house Cabernet along with a starter dish.  Ready for this!  The starter was made with lobster and spinach fondue, manchego cheese, smoked peppers, cream cheese served with French baguette slices around the perimeter of the plate.  Completely delicious!  The mild spiciness of the Fondue paired magnificently with the Cab and was a great precursor for the culinary delight which lay ahead.

Next on the list was the cheeseboard; there no way we were going to pass that up!  The cheeseboard was a comprehensive assortment of various cheese, 11 type in all along with 24 items to go along…. no shortage in options here!  After much reflection and some helpful assistance from Vanessa, we went with the Old Dutch Master Gouda (Holland), Ille de France Brie (French…of course!) and Corazon Manchego (Sheep, Spain).  For the meat portion, we chose Prosciutto Criminally along with House Olives, French bread, Fig/Honey bread and Fig Jam.

I must say this spread was as decadent a cheese platter as you can find.   My relatives in Switzerland would no doubt, jump for joy, if they could sample such a symphonious assortment.  In my family, Gouda and Brie are always winners as we have these varieties of cheeses often and the selection at Bachaaus is of the highest quality.  I found the Corazon Machego cheese to be very mild, flavorful and went very well with the fig and Honey bread.

Now it was time to balance out the wonderful meal with a salad.  The restaurant serves overs 3 kinds of salads, all of which looked great.  We went with the mixed greens selection.  The salad came with marinated garbanzo, herb crusted goat cheese along tomatoes, cucumbers, croutons and just the right amount of sun-dried tomato vinaigrette.   A delicious salad, really liked the texture of the garbanzo, cucumbers and croutons along with the goat cheese and vinaigrette, very refreshing intercession before our next course.

After some deliberation, my dad and I went for the glazed pork belly tacos and lobster-grilled cheese.  Wow!  What a delicious experience!  The tacos were packed with all sorts of goodness, 3 corn tortillas filled with pork belly (consistency of thick bacon chunks) coming with cabbage, kimchi salsa, spicy sweet soy reduction and cilantro.  This paired magnificently with yet another glass of the house Cab.

My dad really enjoyed his lobster grilled cheese.  I wanted to go in for a bite, but I thought that he might stick my had with his fork….yes, he devoured that sandwich.

By the end of this we were almost down for the count, working our way through this 3rd course.  But yet, we had JUST enough room to share a desert.  We went for the butterscotch pot de cream.  A completely delicious end to a wonderfully delicious evening.  This desert was like a butterscotch crème brulee with soft cookies mixed in and topped with whipped cream.  I highly recommend the desert; so make sure to save some real estate in your belly!!
