About The Hollow Trees Family Band

Blending an Americana cornucopia of musical styles that includes folk, bluegrass, jug band, Western swing, country, blues, and jazz, The Hollow Trees offer a great mix of old-time chestnuts, obscure gems, and fun, new original songs.  The band, noted for tossing off clever wordplay combined with excellent musicianship, has been compared to Asleep at the Wheel, the Jim Kweskin jug band, and even The Hoosier Hotshots.

A Hollow Trees show is a high energy, acoustic Americana hoedown that includes plenty of funny songs, sing-alongs, and dance-alongs.  At their Theatricum Botanicum performance, in addition to longtime fan favorites, The Hollow Trees will play tunes from their new album Hello Friend!, such as “I Can’t Dance (I’ve Got Ants in My Pants),” “Hello Friend,” and “What Do You Want on Your Taco?”

As a sample of their artistry, watch The Hollow Trees perform “Hootenanny” live at Theatricum Botanicum here.

The Hollow Trees’ oeuvre revolves around an imaginary Hollow Tree and its chief resident, Nelson, a friendly and musical creature who is a little like a raccoon, a little like a fox, and a little like a baby bear.  The Hollow Tree grows in the midst of a magic meadow hidden deep inside an enchanted forest located in the environs of the mythical hamlet of Nelsonville, USA.  Many of The Hollow Trees’ original songs recount tales of Nelson and his friends and fellow residents of Nelsonville, and Nelson himself is actually known to make appearances at Hollow Trees shows.
