5 Travel Hacks For Your Next Road Trip!

Preparing for a family road trip can take a long time!  I know, I have been on many.  Along the way I have learned a few tricks to making the job of “getting ready” a little easier.  Today I wanted to share my 5 Travel Hacks For Your Next Road Trip!

1. Download a variety of kid-friendly tunes for the road.

My kids love music!  We constantly have music playing in the car even for short trips.  To mix things up a bit I like to download a variety children’s music and books on tape ahead of time.  Some of my favorite websites to find free music and stories for kids are KiddieRecords.com and FreeKidsMusic.com.

2. Use the app GasBuddy.com to find the cheapest gas in the area.

This travel hack is a no brainer!  When I am on the road, I am always on the look out for cheaper gas prices.  I use GasBuddy.com to find the cheapest gas along the highway.  By using the app, I typically save anywhere between .10 to .40 per gallon depending upon where I am driving.

3. Drop a pin on Google Maps when you park your car.

Have you ever parked your car somewhere and forgot where it located?  I do this all time!  Therefore, I discovered this little trick on Google Maps that allows you to create ad hoc locations by dropping pin markers on their maps to designate a location.  This feature is useful when you don’t know the exact location of your vehicle but generally have an idea of the neighborhood in which you parked.  Dropping a pin is supported in both the browser-based and mobile versions of Google Maps.

4. Download kid’s road games ahead of time.

After a few hours on the road, my children start to get bored and continually ask the universal question “Are we there yet?”  So to help ward off the constant nagging, I like to download a few kid games ahead of time.  My children love The License Plate Game, Car Race and Heroki.

5. Pack a variety of snacks ahead of time.

My children are constantly hungry!  So I like to stock up on snacks and drinks ahead of time before we jump in the car and head out to our destination.  Here is a list of my children’s favorite snacks that travel well and where I found them at my local Albertsons store.

These are some great resources. I didn't know about the free kids music sites. #client
