My family loves animals! We’ve had many over the years including 2 cats, 3 dogs and 1 fish.
However, along with pet ownership, also comes the reality that one day you may lose them. Unfortunately, this happened to us last November, when we lost our beautiful rat terrier named Tinker to cancer. She was only 12 years old.
This was especially difficult for my husband and I, because we got Tinker only 3 months after we got married. Tinker was our “first” baby. She was there when we had our first child, Field Trip Boy. She was there when we welcomed our second child, Field Trip Girl, into the world. She was very precious to us and we miss her everyday.
A few months after Tinker’s passing, I started pestering my husband about getting a new dog. My heart felt empty not having a little fur ball around the house to play with and snuggle up against. Something was missing and that something was a new puppy!
So in December of 2014, we adopted a new dog named Dexter!
Dexter is a rescue puppy that we got from a local animal rescue organization. The story behind Dexter is that he was surrendered by his previous owner who could no longer care for him. Apparently, there was mistreatment involved as well.
Dexter was only 5 months old at the time when we got him. Now he is a healthy, happy 10 month old puppy with a big future ahead of him. And if he is anything like his previous canine ancestor Tinker, he will be treated like a king!
