Discover The New SeaWorld San Diego Orca Experience

Posted on May 9, 2018 | Filed Under: Field Trips in San Diego, Giveaways | 34 Comments

Witness what SeaWorld San Diego has been up to with their all new Orca Encounter Show. Experience a whole new way to connect with the ocean’s most powerful predator. Dive deeper into their masterful hunting techniques and complex communication codes. Learn about the role of family and importance of play. And leave with a deeper connection to one of the sea’s mightiest, most magnificent animals.

Did you know that Orcas eat up to 500 pounds of food a day?  They like to eat fish, sea lions, penguins, squid, sea turtles, sharks, and even other kinds of whales?  And they don’t even chew their food!  They sallow it whole!

Another intriguing fact about Orcas is that they weigh up 6 tons and are multi-colored.  They have black on their backs and white on their tummies.  These are just a few of the many facts you will learn about the whales at the all new Orca Encounter at SeaWorld San Diego.

See The New Orca Encounter at SeaWorld San Diego

In 2017, my family and I had the opportunity to preview the new show, which was similar to watching a live documentary.  By far, the new Orca Encounter is much less theatorical and more educational in substance.

During the show, there are a total of 11 whales that perform outstanding choreographed moves set to synchronized music.  The whales still come out of the water to display their beauty, but the trainers no longer swim with them.

Now the animal behavorists explain to the audience how the whales hunt for their prey in the wild and communicate with one another through play.

Best Time To Visit Mission San Juan Capistrano

Posted on December 12, 2017 | Filed Under: Field Trips in Orange County, General, Giveaways | 23 Comments

Mission San Juan Capistrano is a historical Spanish mission located in San Juan Capistrano, California. As one of the original 21 Spanish missions in California, they offer educational programs such as living history days, school field trips and homeschool tours and classes. Spring is the best time to visit Mission San Juan Capistrano when the gardens are in full bloom.

One of my favorite places to visit in the late winter, early spring in Southern California is The Mission San Juan Capistrano.  The character of the buildings, the history, and uniqueness of the mission add to the charm of the small town which it resides in.

The History of Mission San Juan Capistrano

Mission San Juan Capistrano has been the home to many people over 230 years of history.  Its history consists of memories and stories of its past inhabitants and present visitors.  It is a place of historical, cultural, and religious significance, as well as a place of inspiration and education.

The story begins in 1775, when Mission San Juan Capistrano was first founded by Father Lasuen, on October 30th. But just a few weeks after the party of padres and soldiers arrived, they received word of the revolt occurring in San Diego.  The founding padres, and soldiers decided to leave San Juan Capistrano, and go back to San Diego to help there.  Once things had settled in San Diego, Saint Serra personally led a party to re-found Mission San Juan Capistrano on All Saint’s Day, November 1, 1776.
