Happy Valentine’s Day!  Well, not quite yet.  But it is right around the corner and I don’t know about you, but my family is super excited about it.  We have already put up our decorations and have started to work on Field Trip Girl and Field Trip Boy’s class Valentine’s Day cards.  Love is all around us!

In honor of Valentine’s Day 2015, I rounded up the best Kid-Friendly Valentine’s events happening across the southland in February.  Pick one and celebrate the special day of XOXO with your family!

AREA WIDE:

2/6 – 2/14 @ All DayValentine’s Day Card Making Station @ Pottery Barn Kids.  FREE.

2/7 @ 11 am – 3 pmFrom the Heart Coupons Craft @ Lakeshore Learning.  FREE.

2/7 @ 10 am – 12 pmString Art Heart Craft @ Michael’s Craft Stores.  $2 per person.

INLAND EMPIRE:

2/7 @ 10 am – 2 pmDays to Delight Love – Is In The Cards Event @ Nordstrom The Galleria at Tyler, Riverside.  Kids!  Make your own ‘bee mine’ valentine card to give to someone special.  Mushy stuff not required.  FREE while supplies last.

2/10 @ 4 pm – 5 pmValentine’s Crafts @ La Sierra Library, Riverside.  Come and make a Valentine’s Craft.  All ages.  FREE.

2/12 @ 4 pm – 6 pm – Sweets and Treats Valentine’s Day Events @ Villegas Park, Riverside.  Roses are red, Violets are blue, candy is sweet and you will be too when you attend the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department Saint Valentine’s Day events.  Event activities may include music, refreshments, keepsake photos, games, and arts and crafts.  FREE.

2/13 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pmValentine Partytine @ Pennypickle’s Workshop (Temecula Children’s Museum), Temecula.  Kids!  Have your own fun during Pennypickle’s heart-filled Valentine’s celebration!  This will be a lock-in event and children will need to be pre-registered.  You may send food and drinks for your child if you wish.  $15 per person ages 5-10.

LOS ANGELES:

2/3 @ 4 pm – 8pm – Free Family Night @ Kidspace Museum, Pasadena. Explore the art of romantic dance! Enjoy performances of ballet, and belly dancing as well as create clothespin flamenco dolls and castanet instruments.  Performances begin at 6:00 pm.  FREE.

2/3 @ 6:30 pmValentine’s Day Craft @ The South Bay Galleria Kid’s Club, Redondo Beach.  At this fun-filled event, kids will gather to decorate a Valentine’s Day tote bag that they can take home and share with someone special.  FREE.

2/14 @ 9 am – 12 pm – The Great Backyard Bird Count @ The El Dorado Nature Center, Long Beach.  Become a scientist for the day! Help count our local feathery friends and discover why they are so important. The data collected helps scientists understand more about bird populations and migration. No experience necessary.  FREE for all ages.

2/14 @ 11 am –4 pmTarget Free Family Saturdays: Hello Valentine @ JANM, Dowtown Los Angeles.  Will you be my valentine?  Join Hello Kitty at JANM for a heart-filled day of family fun!  All day activities include creating a special Valentine’s Day card with a marshmallow candy surprise inside for someone special, making an origami apple in honor of Hello Kitty, jumping into the deluxe Hello Kitty bounce house and a temporary tattoo station.  From 1 pm – 4 pm Hello Kitty will be onsite for hugs, photos, and friendship greetings!  FREE.

2/14 @ 6:30 pm – 8 pmValentine’s Day Evening Campfire @ Marsh Park, Los Angeles.  Spend an evening around the campfire with neighbors, friends, and family.  It will be an entertaining evening with campfire songs, marshmallow roasting and a nature program! 1.5 hours. FREE.

2/14 – 2/16 – Have a Heart Weekend @ Kidspace Museum, Pasadena.  Kidspace is celebrating love and American Heart Month in a whole new way this year through a greater understanding of our hearts and how to keep them healthy.  Play games to get your heart racing, make anatomically correct heart love cards for loved ones, and explore food that makes our hearts happy.

2/15 @ 2 Showings – Princesses Friendship Celebration @ Creating Arts Company, Santa Monica.  February is a month full of love and the Princesses have a very special Friendship Celebration planned especially for your little princesses and princes!  Come join the fun, singing and dancing to favorite songs and some new ones in this show all about friendship, love, caring and sharing!  All ages.

ORANGE COUNTY:

2/7 @ 5: 30 pm – 8 pmFather Daughter Dinner Dance @ South Shores Church in Dana Point.  A special evening enhancing the relationship between fathers and daughters. Girls ages 4-18 are escorted by their father or special male role model who has a positive impact on her life. Guest can pre-order a photo keepsake, flower boutonnière and corsage during online registration. A catered dinner will be served followed by some games and lots of fun dancing. Moments they’ll cherish forever. $15/$25

2/10 @ 4 pm – 5 pmValentine’s Day Crafts @ Newport Beach Library’s Marine Branch.  Love is in the air this week!  Stop by the Mariners Branch to create a valentine for someone special. All ages.  No registration required.  FREE.

2/12 @ 4 pm – 5 pmI Heart Crafts @ Newport Beach Central Library.  You’ll love the crafts you can make!  Create Valentine’s Day gifts for someone special.  No registration required.  For children K – 3rd grade. FREE>

2/14 @ 8:30 am – 10:30 amHunt for Hearts in Nature @ The Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano.  Come walk along the Sycamore Loop Trail on this special day and hunt for heart shaped natural objects. Perhaps a heart shaped rock or leaf, tree branches coming together forming a heart, or even a heart shaped small rodent path in the grasses.  We will all celebrate the beauty and wonder of Nature on this Valentine’s Day walk on the wild side.  Ages 8 and up.

2/12 – 2/14Valentine’s Day with The Tenors presented by The Pacific Symphony @ The Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Costa Mesa

2/14 @ 10 am – 4 pmCelebrate Valentine’s Day @ Pretend City, Irvine.  Wear pink or red to receive $1 off general admission!

  • Sensational Story Time: The Very Special Valentine is a heartwarming story that will encourage your child to appreciate the gift of love.
  • Smart Art: Heart art will fill the art studio today! From love bugs to a heart scape your child will enjoy creating and learning about this holiday symbol.
  • Good to Go Game: Your child will enjoy using their critical thinking skills during this Hearts and Showers scavenger hunt through Pretend City! Children will learn about symbols of this holiday while using clues to find the next hidden heart.

2/14 @ 1 pm – 3 pmJunior Archaeologist Program @ Bower’s Kidsmuseum, Santa Ana.  Become an archaeologist for a day – think, learn, explore and get your hands dirty! Participate in an archaeological dig, learn how to record your findings and create an artifact to take home.  The cost is the price of admission, plus $10 for every participating child ages 4 and up.

2/14 @ 9 am – 11 am I Heart Fashion @ Fashion Camp, Mission Viejo.  Learn to hand sew and create, design and sew a heart themed tee for Valentine’s Day!  Ages 7 & up.  Materials included. $35 per person.

SAN DIEGO: 

2/1-2/23 @ All Day – VONS Handmade Holidays: DIY Valentine’s Day Card @ Think, Play, Create Museum, San Diego.  Design a card for someone you love!  Use recycled materials and colored pencils to show off your creativity and appreciation.  Ages 4+

2/5 @ 11 am – For the Love of Art: Love in Works from the Permanent Collection Docent Led Tour @ The San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego.  Ages 12+.

2/12 @ 1 pmMake a Copper Valentine @ Bravo School Of Art, San Diego.  Create a unique Valentine using thin gauge copper or brass sheet which was ‘heat-painted’ with torch, flux and silver by the instructor prior to class.  Make a pattern for your heart shape, cut it out of the rich painterly metal, and let your imagination soar as you imprint words with letter stamps or texture with hammers and punches.  All ages.  The cost is $48 for non-members + $14 Materials fee.

2/13 @ 3:30 pmValentine’s Day Craft Activity @ the Carlsbad City Library, Carlsbad –  Join us for crafts and snacks to celebrate love and friendship in honor of Valentine’s Day.  For grades 6-12.  Sign-ups required.  FREE.

2/13 – All Day – San Diego Chorus Presents Singing Valentines, San Diego – San Diegans can say ‘Be My Valentine’ to their special loved ones with a gift they will remember—singing Valentines. Talented quartets from the award-winning San Diego Chorus will deliver very special messages of love this Valentine’s Day weekend.

2/14 & 2/15 @ 11 am – VONS Handmade Holidays: Valentine’s Day Happy Hearts Workshop @ Think, Play Create Museum, San Diego.  Make a healthy heart for your own monster!  Learn how to transform fruit into heart-shaped brownie bites to store in a special monster box.  Ages 5+
