Bubblefest, one of the most spectacular children’s events of the year, is now playing at the Discovery Cube Orange County thru April 16, 2017! Last Thursday, SoCal Field Trips was invited to preview the bubble extravaganza to share with our readers, and that’s you!
Bubblefest Activities at Discovery Cube OC
This year, Bubblefest is bigger and better with larger-than-life magic tricks, amazing illusions and hands-on activities all over the Cube. When we first entered the building, the kids visited the Bubble Lab where they were encouraged to get their hands wet and try out various science experiments.
My kids were wide eyed as they learned how to manipulate the bubbles into different sizez, shapes and patterns. We also watched the Cube’s staff make creative bubble walls that the kids then blew huge bubbles into.
Outdoors was the water spheres activity area. Here, my son entered a large round inflatable ball that rolled on top of the water. The challenge was for him to stand up and roll the ball without falling down. He tired over and over again without much success. However, neither did I!
In the courtyard, the kids discovered large buckets of soapy water with huge wands inside. The Cube staff encouraged them to make gigantic bubbles and try and trap their friends inside.
For an extra fee, you can also get your photo taken inside the bubble and go home with a fun souvenir. The bubble is large enough for your entire family to fit inside.
Bubblefest Laser Show at Discovery Cube OC
After playing in the Bubble Lab, we saw a 45-minute Mega Bubblefest Laser Show production inside the 10,000 square-foot Julianne Argyros Showcase Theater, which Discovery Cube unveiled in 2015 as part of its 44,000 square-foot campus remodel and expansion. Famed bubble scientist and performance artist Deni Yang led the viscous variety stage show, which combined music, lasers, lighting effects and bubble artistry to create a spectacular experience for all ages.
We saw Yang blow bubbles of all shapes, sizes and colors – some filled with swirling smoke and others seemingly dancing and rotating in mesmerizing displays of visual artistry.
It was intriguing to learn that Deni Yang holds the world record for encapsulating 181 people inside a single bubble. During the show, he also invited a few lucky youngsters on stage to participate in the various acts of bubble making and encapsulated two of them in their own bubble.
The production ended on a high note with an energizing laser show that kept the whole family entertained.
